What is contained in a WARTS Briefing?
Should take place prior to the preflight checklist
W- Weather, Windshear, Gusts, Cold weather operations, TO Alternate
A-Abnormal/Non-normal/Abort considerations, MEL’s
R- Runway Considerations, Runway length, condition, likely runway to return to
T-Taxi, low visibility taxi/Terrain/Transition Altitude Considerations/Threats
S- SID Procedures/ Special Company Pages
What is contained in a NATS briefing?
(Should be completed during a period of low workload once approach information has been received. Preferably before the TOD)
N- NOTAMs, ATIS (weather & winds)
A- Arrival Procedure (STAR)/Approach Chart (NOI)/Automation/ Configuration/Go around plan
T- Transition Level/Terrain/Taxi Route (hot spots)/Threats
S- Special Company Pages/ Engine out procedure
What is contained in a prior to takeoff navigation briefing?
The pilot flying will verify and verbalize:
R- Runway- Assigned departure runway with FMS DEP RWY
D- Departure
F- First Fix
H- Heading (initial) and or planned lateral control automation mode
A- Altitude and transition Altitude if other than 18,000 feet
S- Speed restriction if applicable
