Bridging topic Flashcards
What are the subatomic particles, their charges and their atomic mass?
Particle Charge Atomic mass
Neutron 0 1
Proton 1 1
Electron -1 0(almost)
What are atoms?
Tiny particles that make up everything.
What are compounds?
Two or more types of atoms chemically joined together.
What is a mixture?
Multiple atoms and/or compounds mixed but not chemically joined together.
What is the atomic number?
The number of protons
How do you find out the number of neutrons?
atomic mass - atomic number
Number of electrons =
number of protons
What does the atomic mass show?
The number of neutrons and protons.
What is an element?
One type of atom, on its own or joined to another atom of the same type.
What are molecules?
Two or more atoms chemically bonded together.
What is a chemical change?
A change in the physical and chemical properties when a new substance is formed.
What is a chemical property?
A property which indicates how a substance reacts with something else. Matter will be changed into a new substance after the reaction.
What is a physical change?
A change in size, shape or state where no new substances are formed.
What is a physical property?
A property observed by senses and determined without destroying matter.
What is the law of the conservation of mass?
reactants’ mass = products’ mass
What is a quantity?
Something you can measure.
What is a unit?
A fixed amount of quantity, it tells you what it has been measured in.
What is gradient?
How steep or shallow a line is.
The steeper the line…
the bigger the gradient.
The shallower the line…
the lower the gradient.
Lines going up have a ________ gradient.
positive
Lines going down have a ________ gradient.
negative
gradient =
change in y
___________
change in x
What is the control variable?
The factors that stay the same though an experiment.
What is the independent variable?
The variable you change to see what happens.
What is the dependant variable?
The variable you measure.

distance (m)
___________
time (secs)
distance (m) =
speed (m/s) x time (secs)
time (secs) =

wavelength (m) =
wave speed (m/s)
______________
