Bridges Flashcards
In a fixed movable bridge which abutment is the female abutment
Anterior
In a fixed movable bridge which abutment is the male attachment
Distal /posterior
What are the advantages of a fixed movable bridge
The joint is a stress breaker
Because it is not a fixed fixed less prep is required especially female (can use 3/4crown)
Process of cementation is easier
What are the advantages of using porcelain for an inlay/onlay (2)
- Stronger than composite
- Porcelain to composite luting cement bond is better than composite to composite
What is used to cement onlays and Inlays
Composite luting cement
What are the advantages of composite inlay/onlay (7)
- Composite more forgiving
- Has better flexural strength
- Does not need hollow ground chamfer
- Only required 1mm prep rather than 2mm
- Has more of a chameleon effect with the surrounding tooth
-Cheaper - Can be repaired
What is the occlusal reduction in a fixed movable
1.5mm
What is Antes law
The total periodontal membrane area of the abutment teeth must equal or exceed that of the teeth to be replaced
How can you increase the retention of a bridge
Ensure good crown height and width
Not too over tapered
Grooves
Boxes
Slots
Where can grooves be placed
For a single crown
Mesial and distal
Where would retention grooves be placed in a bridge
Buccal lingual grooves
On the distal abutment- most stress
