Why is Russia not projected to become a world super power as the heartland theory had suggested?

A
  • military naval and aircraft stock is ageing with inability to provide sufficient funding for further developments
  • Does not have a competitive political model that could be an alternative to western Liberalism based on free-market economy.
  • large Inequality gaps suggest that large proportion of population do not gain much of the capital gained by the country- richest 1% control over 70% of economy

Q

Explain the dispute over the Arctic?

A

Arctic.- a race among nations in prep for future access to oil, fish, diamonds and shipping routes, accelerated by the impact of global warming.

Countries in dispute ; Russia, USA , Canada , Denmark and Norway
Increasing military advancements into the Arctic pushes other countries to do the same ; Since 2002 Canada carried out military exercises in the Arctic and Norway has expanded its navy size , multiple expeditions into the North pole region of Arctic has been sent out by each country in attempt to gain evidence to show that the ice present derives from their territories

all an effort that goes to waste if the country isnt wealthy enough to provide funding needed for drilling in Arctic.
