Q

What issues are there regarding certification?

A

Products must be marked with CE - approved by EU certified bodies. UK bodies are no longer EU bodies. Advice has been given by EU and UK to manufacturers.

Ensuring products comply with EU law is Contractors responsibility.

Q

Have you seen any cost implications on your projects due to Brexit?

A

I have seen some additional cost increases in various rates however it is hard to confirm if it is conclusively due to Brexit, more than likely a combination of Brexit, Covid, construction cost inflation and tender price inflation.

I have seen increases in:

  • steel
  • glazing
  • partitions (due to timber)
  • finishes (carpetting, etc due to manufacturing slow down and transportation)
  • furniture suppliers

In some cases, Contractors have been pushing for orders to be made prior to a certain date as suppliers were enforcing deadlines for ordering prior to a price increase of circa 5-10%.
