Breathing disorders Flashcards
What are the symptoms of asthma?
Noisy, wheezy breathing and a feeling of breathlessness.
What can asthma attacks be triggered by?
Attacks may be triggered by substances called allergens that are inhaled (pollen, animal dander, house dust and dust mites).
Lung infections, exercise, stress or anxiety can also contribute to causing asthma.
What happens during an asthma attack internally?
The lower bronchioles become inflamed and narrow.
How can asthma attacks be prevented?
By identifying and avoiding those allergens or conditions that trigger attacks.
Preventative inhalers may be used. These cause the bronchioles to widen (or dilate).
Steroids may be inhaled to reduce inflammation.
What are the preventative inhalers for asthma called?
bronchodilators
