Breathing Flashcards
1
Q
What is the structure of the alveoli?
A
It has moist walls, a large surface area, a one cell thick membrane, and it is close to the blood capillaries.
2
Q
What gasses are exchanged during breathing?
A
Oxygen and carbon dioxide
2
Q
How does the structure of the alveoli help it with its function?
A
The moist walls allows the air to move quicker through the alveoli as there is more friction. The one cell thin wall allows the particles to move through easily through it. It is situated near blood capillaries so the gas exchange can be more efficient. The large surface area allows there to be more room for the diffusion process.
