Breast Ultrasound Flashcards
What is the arrow referencing?
The arrow is referencing a** rib**.
Ribs are common palpable structures potentially confused for a breast mass. Note the structures anterior to the rib: pectoralis muscles immediately anterior then the posterior margin of breast tissue.
Approximately 75% of lymph drains from the breast tissues into the axillary lymph node chain. Where does the other 25% potentially drain?
The other 25% of lymph drainage is to various outer lymph node chains surrounding the breast. These include:
- Internal Mammary nodes
- Intercostal nodes
- Supraclavicular nodes
- Flow to the opposite breast
- Flow to the diaphragm
There are 3 classic densities identified on mammography. Name the densities.
The 3 classic densities identified on mammography include:
- Fat density
- Water density
- Calcium density
A phyllodes tumor arises from what type of tissue of the breast?
A Phyllodes tumor, previously known as cystosarcoma phyllodes, is a rare lesion arising from the** stroma or connective tissue** of the breast. Therefore, it is not associated with the glandular portion of the breast or TDLU.
Speed error is a common artifact seen while imaging breast implant patients. Is speed error associated with saline or silicone gel implants?
Speed error is not a problem with saline implants. It is only seen with silicone gel implants.
