What is ductal carcinoma in situ?
When cancer cells are in the breast duct, have not yet spread outside the duct and into surrounding breast tissue
What is invasive ductal carcinoma?
When cancer cells invade into surrounding breast tissue from the breast duct and have the ability to metastasize to lymph nodes and other organs
What is inflammatory breast cancer?
An aggressive breast cancer characterised by progressive inflammation of the breast, turning from pink to red or purple, becoming swollen and heavy
What screening options are there for breast cancer?
Mammograms
- Breast tissue X-ray
Ultrasound
- Especially in younger women or women with dense breast tissue
MRI
What is the triple test for breast cancer?
History and physical exam
Imaging

What are some treatment options for berast cancer?
Surgery
- Lumpectomy
- Partial or total mastectomy +/- reconstruction
