What is pagets disease of the breast?
Intraductal carcinoma assosiated with reddening and thickening (may resemble eczematous changes) of the nipple/areola
What is mammary duct ectasia?
Dilatation of the large breast ducts
When is mammary duct ectasia most common?
Around menopause

Tender lump around the areola
+/- green nipple discharge
If ruptures may cause local inflammation, sometimes referred as ‘plasma cell mastitis’
Pathology of duct papilloma
Local areas of epithelial proliferation in large mammary ducts
Hyperplastic lesions rather than malignant or premalignant
What may a duct papilloma present with?
Blood stained discharge
Who is fat necrosis more common in?
Obese women with large breasts
What may fat necrosis may follow?
Trivial or unnoticed trauma
Pathology of fat necrosis
Initial inflammatory response, the lesion is typically firm and round but may develop into a hard, irregular breast lump
What may fat necrosis mimic?
Breast cancer
Who is a breast abscess more common in?
Lactating women
Presentation of breast abscess
Red, hot, tender swelling
What is recommended after a women has had a wide local excision?
Breast radiotherapy
What is duct ectasia?
Non malignant breast disease with thick green nipple discharge, occurring with breast involution
What size of a breast fibroadenoma should be removed?
> 3cm
