-Represents the British monarchy in Canada
-Part of legislative & executive branch
Executive Branch
-Prime minister, cabinet, & cabinet ministers
-Proposes laws, puts laws into action, & runs day to day business
Prime Minister
-Head of government
-Elected as leader of parliament, party, & holds most seats in HOC
The Cabinet
-Proposes most ideas to become laws
-Ministers & their portfolios chosen by the PM
Legislative Branch
-Makes laws
-Represents interests & rights of Canadian regions & population
-Rep by pop
House of Commons
-Major law-making body in federal politics
-Elected members of parliament (representing their district and political party if they have one) debate, study, & vote on bills
-Party with most MP’s forms government
Senate
-Senators appointed by PM to represent interests & rights of regions & minorities
-Can propose & reject bills but usually only considers passes them by HOC
Judicial Branch
-Applies & interprets laws
-All Canada’s courts
-Responsible for keeping Canadian rights respected
-Members from legal profession
-Separate from others & acts as check on political power
