A

 mechanically (via a cable)
 hydraulically (using fluid under pressure - like cars & trucks)

What are some advantages of disc brakes?

A

 friction material similar to cars/trucks, rather than rubber
 the wheel is no longer the wear surface
 better braking in wet conditions

How should you examine rim break pads for wear?

A

-examine how much friction material is remaining
-press your finger nail into the brake pad
 if the pad’s rubber is rock-hard, replace the pads
 if the pad has some give to it, you can likely reuse them

  • clean using nylon scrub pad or fine emery paper
  • wipe it clean
  • apply a thin coat of grease
