What are the general steps for servicing bearings?

A
  1. disassemble
  2. thorough cleaning
  3. inspection
    races: check for pitting
  4. replace worn bearings
  5. apply new grease to bearings and races
  6. assemble
  7. adjust bearings
     all slack needs to be removed
     bearings should spin freely, but should not wiggle or have play

remove cones from left side (non-drive side)

What are the 2 styles of bottom brackets?

A

Sealed Cartridge Style Bottom Bracket Bearings
* no lubrication or adjustment required - in use since early 1990’s
* on most bikes, the right side uses a left hand (reverse) thread

Three-piece
- Assembling spindle may be asymmetrical
 longer half should go on the right side of the bike (drive side)
 any markings on the spindle should be readable from the riding position
