Pituitary adenoma

What are gliomas?
Derived from astrocytes and are the most aggressive and common type of primary brain tumour
What are meningiomas?
Arise from arachnoid mater and are slow growing. Usually benign and are curable if completely removed.
What are the general clinical presentations of brain tumours?
Raised ICP
Focal neurological deficits
CSF Obstruction
Epilepsy
What symptoms occur in a parietal lobe lesion?
Gerstmann’s syndrome
Agraphia-inability to communicate through writing
Acalculia-loss of ability to do simple calculations
Finger agnosia-inability to recognise fingers
Why do you use corticosteroids (dexamethasone) in brain tumours?
To reduce brain oedema
