Brain structures/parts Flashcards
Broca’s area
Speech, grammar.
Wernicke’s area
Comprehension of language.
Frontal lobe
Abstract thought, social skills, planning.
Temporal lobe
Hearing, language, visual recognition.
Parietal lobe
Touch, non-verbal thoughts, spatial orientation.
Occipital lobe
Vision.
Primary visual cortex
Located in the occipital lobe, process info from the eyes.
Primary auditory cortex
Located in the upper temporal lobe, receives sound information from the ears.
Primary somasensory cortex
Located in the parietal lobe, processes sensations such as touch, pressure, temperature and pain from the body.
Primary motor cortex
Located at the rear of frontal love, responsible for movement of skeletal muscles.
Primary cortices
Recieve information from the environment, relayed by the thalamus, begin processing and interpreting information by the thalamus.
Association areas
75% of the cortex, integrate information between motor and sensory areas and higher order mental processes.
Hindbrain
- Medulla
- Pons
- Cerebellum
Midbrain
Reticular formation
