Vasodilators
Hydralazine, nitroprusside, and sildenafil (viagra) dilate your vessels so your blood can fill
Aldosterone antagonists
The same MOA as the Aliskiren one, but spiranolactones side effects are just not fun. Libido changes and GI upset make me want to take eplerenone instead

Direct renin blockers (Aliskiren)
Blocking renin means that potassium is retained (hyperkalemia), so Aliskiren makes sure the blood pressure’s low and potassium remains. Watch out for rashes alllll over my skin with Alllllliskiren
ARBs (-sartans, like Losartan)
If your BP is too high for startin’, grab yourself a -sartan. Your kidney’s will hurt and potassium’s goin’ up, but angioedema will level the cup.
Pregnant women wanna cut down on cARBs!
Alternate:
No dry cough like an ARB can bring,
But watch for potassium—it likes to cling.
Dizzy spells if your pressure drops,
Your kidneys, too—watch those labs pop!
ACE inhibitors (-prils)
-Prils are the ones that inhibit the ACE, lowering that BP without making your heart race! (or affecting heart contractility or conduction speed :))
But don’t forget, a cough always comes in A-pril!
How does the RAAS system function?
Your RAAS RAISES your BP by telling your kidneys don’t pee! (Absorb more fluid), and telling your vessels to keep constricting.
Anticholinergics (Atropine, Cogentin, etc.)
Anticholinergics are anti-secretions (they dry everything out so side effects: dry mouth, urinary retention) and anti-elderly people because of sedations

Cholinergics/muscarinic receptor agonists (bethanceol, -stigmines, and pilocarpine)
When my eyesight is no longer keen (glaucoma), it’s time to start -stigmines/pilocarpine.
Will cause the SLUDGE side effects - salivation, lacrimation, urination, diarrhea, emesis + bradycardia and dyspnea
Timolol
Timolol is a beta-blocker that is used for glaucoma.
Take the piece of timolol out of your eye!
Beta blockers
Selective beta blockers like metropolol/atenelol bring down heart rate, contractions, and BP y’all. Non-selective beta blockers can hurt your lungs (bronchospasm), or your heart (CHF, blocked AV node), even if you’re young.

Catecholamines (epi, norepi, dopi)
Catecholamines vasoconstrict, increase your HR and bronchodilate if you’re body’s afflict. But listen up for the main catch - Epi lowers blood pressure but dopamine raises it back.

MAOIs. DONT take that dopamine with MAOIs
Beta 1 Agonists
Dobutamine!
Dobutamine causes weak hearts to do fast, fatty heart things (pros: increased HR, contractility, and lipolysis… cons: tachydysrhythmias). But DONT take that DOBUTAMINE with MAOIs, anesthetics, or tricyclic antidepressants.
Beta 2 Agonists
Albuterol. Albuterol opens up asthmatic lungs and relaxes all my muscles & vessels except for the heart (causes tachy)
Alpha 1 Agonists
Pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine.
Alpha-1 kicks into gear,
Nasal congestion - crystal clear.
Blood pressure rising - up too high?
Reflex slows your heart till it’s just right
Alternate: Alpha 1’s decrease nasal congestion, but also heart rate - no fun!
Alpha 2 Agonists
Clonidine
Alpha-2 says “slow it down,”
Less noradrenaline (insulin & acetylcholine) in the town.
Lowers pressure, chills the flow,
Heart beats softer, nice and slow.
But watch for drowsy, dry of mouth,
Used for anxiety,
Just don’t rebound (hypertension).
Alternate: Clonidine caaalms you down, just watch out for that rebound.
Similarities between the adrenergic receptors?
Alpha 1 agonists & beta 1 agonists constrict (vascular for alpha 1’s and the heart for beta 2’s)
Alpha blockers, beta 2 agonist and alpha 2 agonists (2 & 2) dilate and relaaax
