Brain Functions Flashcards
Hippocampus
The Hippocampus is involved in long term memory.
Amygdala
The Amygdala is involved with emotion, particularly fear and anxiety
Basal Ganglia
The Basal Ganglia are involved with movement.
Thalamus
The Thalamus is involved with sensory relay - taking sensory info and transmitting it to cortex.
Hypothalamus
The Hypothalamus controls autonomic nervous system and pituitary.
Superior/Inferior Colliculi
Superior/Inferior Colliculi are involved with auditory and visual systems.
Pons
The Pons is involved with sleep, arousal, and voluntary body movements (eyes/bladder/etc).
Cerebellum
The Cerebellum is involved with balance, motor control, and movement.
Medulla
The Medulla controls vital body systems (heart rate, breathing, etc.).
Fornix
The Fornix connects the hippocampus to other parts of the limbic system.
