brain and the nervous system pt.iii (nerves) Flashcards
what between and where do signals cross?
neurones at the synapse
what make signals cross?
neurotransmitters
what does electrical impulse trigger?
vesicles to move the synapse membrane
what do the vesicles do after moving to synapse?
fuse with membrane, release neurotransmitters into synaptic cleft
what do the neurotransmitters do after synaptic cleft?
moves across cleft and binds to receptors on other side
when is the signal transmitted?
when receptors have enough neurotransmitters bound to them
different types of neurons?
motor neuron, sensory neuron, interneuron
motor neuron?
sends signals to muscles to tell to move
sensory neuron?
sends signals from sense organs
interneuron?
connects neurons to other neurons (only other neurons)
path of nerve impulse?
stimulus –> receptor –> sensory neuron –> relay neuron and brain –> motor neuron –> effector –> response
reflex?
involuntary and nearly instantaneous movement responding to stimulus
reaction?
voluntary and intentional response, requires thought
reflex arc?
stimulus –> motor –> sensory neuron –> processed by cns (brain) –> motor neuron –> effector –> response by effector
what is a reflex arc the same as?
path of nerve impulse
