Brain and Meninges Flashcards
What drains into cavernous sinus?
ophthalmic veins
superficial middle cerebral vein
sphenoparietal sinuses
cerebral veins
Where does cavernous sinus drain into?
Inferior (drains into internal jugular) and Superior petrosal sinus
What structures pass through cavernous sinus?
VI nerve
Internal Carotid Artery
What structures pass through wall of cavernous?
3,4, V1, V2
Tribituaries of internal jugular vein?
- Facial
- Superior thyroid vein
- Middle thyroid vein
- Lingual vein
- Pharyngeal
- Occipital
external jugular vein
formed near the angle of the mandible by the junction of the posterior division of the retromandibular vein and the posterior auricular vein. The external jugular veins dive deep and drain into the subclavian veins or internal jugular veins.
Superior SAgittal Sinus
Begins at foramen caecum (recieves small emissary vein from nasal cavity)
Ends at confluence of sinuses
Bend to right= empty int right transversse sinus
Inferior Sagittal Sinus
Cerebral veins from falx cerebri
Ends at tranverse sinus
Straight Sinus
Great cerebral joins with inferior sag sinus and edge of tentorium cerebelli
Ends in confluence of sinuses
Bends to left emty into left transverse
recieves blood frin inferior sag sinus
Occipital Sinus
in falx cerebri
Confluence of sinuses
superior sag, transverse, occipital, straight sinus
Sigmoid Sinus
as transverses leaves, becomes sigmoid sinus
end at internal jugular veins
