Brain and Behaviour 4 Flashcards
Describe V2.
Thick and thin, cytochrom oxidase concentrated and not interstripes
Describe the cells of the dorsal where pathway.
Dominated by rapidly responding, movement detecting cells with little colour preference
Describe the ventral what pathway.
V1 > V2 > V4 > IT
What does IT stand for?
Inferotemporal cortex
What is achromatopsia?
Cortical colour blindness
Describe the cells of the IT cortex.
Some of the most highly sophisticated cells, respond to faces, hands etc.
What is prosopagnosia?
Inability to recognise faces
If two eye fixate on the same object. . .
. . .the images of other objects at the same distance fall at corresponding points
Images lying nearer or further that the object of focus. . .
. . .lie at different distances from the fovea.
The angular difference in position between objects in focus and those closer or further is known as?
Retinal disparity
What is retinal disparity?
The angular difference in position of two objects different distances away
What are the smallest retinal disparities that can be detected?
2 seconds of an arc - 1mm at 1m
Describe cells that convey retinal disparity.
Complex, with binocular input; respond poorly to either, but vigorously to both
What does MT stand for?
Mid-temporal
What is motion information used for?
Visual perception, maintaining pursuit eye movements and guiding bodily movement through the environment
