Brain Flashcards
da brain boi!
what are the 3 large structures that make up the brain?
-cerebrum
-cerebellum
-brainstem
what is the cerebrum and what does it consist of? + what it do 💜
- large squishy part of brain
- frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe and occipital lobe
-responsible for concious thought, higher-order intellectual functions and intentional/voluntary movements of every body part
frontal lobe where and what
- front (no shi!)
- higher mental ability and control of movement
- regulate emotion
temporal lobe where and what
- frontish bottom
- receive auditory information and main site for processing this information (interpret sound + understand speech)
occiptial lobe where and what
- back and small
- vision
parietal where and what
- middle and top
- recieve info abt touch and temp of skin, body’s position and special movement
hypothalamus where and what
- base of brain circle looking thing
- regulates basic functions of body such as temp control, water balance, thirst, sleep and heart rate
-functions carried out by pit gland and connected to it by infundibulum
cerebellum where and what
-small round part at back of brain
-coordination and balance
brain stem’s other name, place and function
- medulla is another name
- long part that sticks out at the base of the brain
- controls vital functions such as breathing, blood pressure and heart rate
spinal cord what
- connects to brain and then connects brain to pns
- both are surrounded in CSF
- integrates certain reflexes
pituitary gland other name, what it do and where
-pea sized structure at base of brain
- often called master gland
- controls activities of other endocrine glands (ovaires, testes and thyroid gland) and many body function
- ↑ through hormones
- does hypothalamus’ bidding lolsers
steps of how hypothalamus and pituitary work together
- hypothalamus receives info from receptors about drop in temp
- produces hormone, sends message to pituitary gland to secrete thyroid stimulating hormone
- pituitary gland release TSH which stimulates the thyroid to release thyroxine
- thyroid releases thyroxine, travels to all cells.
- all cells increase the rate of metabolism, generates more heat and warms the body
what parts is pit gland made of?
- 2 parts
- anterior lobe
- posterior lobe
CSF?
- ceresponial fluid
- provides nutrients to neurons and acts like a shock absorber
- surrounds brain and spinal cord
