Brain Flashcards
Frontal lobe is for
Creativity
Personality
Mood
Regulates impulse control
Cerebral cortex
Outer area that covers surface of the brain
Brain stem
Regulation automatic functions and connects to the spinal cord
Parietal lobe
Receives sensory information eg temperature touch and pain which are perceptions
Temporal lobe
Memory processing and understanding language
Occipital lobe
Visual processing receives information directly from eyes
Localisation of brain function meaning
Refers to the principle that different parts of the brain are responsible for different functions
Paul broca example
French neurosurgeon
Studied group of patients with language problems
Found damage to left hemisphere of brain at the left side of frontal lobe
Area is named Broca’s area associated with speech production
Model answer localisation of brain function
Localisation of brain means different areas of the brain are responsible for different functions
The cerebral cortex is the outside layer of the brain which splits into four different lobes in each hemisphere and each has a different function.
The frontal lobe links to mood personality and impulse control. The temporal lobe links to memory and understanding language.the parietal lobe is for perceptions such as temperature pain and gets sensory information.the occipital lobe is responsible for visual processing.
An example of this in psychology is localisation of Ianguage as Paul broca who was a French neurosurgeon who studied a group of people with language problems he discovered they all had damage to the left hemisphere of the brain at the left sided of the frontal lobe associated with speech production therefore this shows how areas of the brain are responsible for different functions .
