Brain Flashcards
What are Axons
Axons are tendril-like strand which send signals to other neurons
What are Neurons
Nerve cells that send messages all over the body
What are dendrites
dendrites receive information with the help of neurotransmitters
How developed is the brain at birth (in size)
25% of adults size
what is the cerebellum, and where.
Back of the brain. Focuses on balance and motor function
What is the cerebrum
The largest part of the brain, is divided in left and right side. called hemispheres
What is differentiation
the process when neurons take specialized structure, and function
What is integration
neurons coordinate groups of muscles
what is Glia
Nourish and protect neurons
What is Myelination
A fatty substance, in which signals can be sent faster/more smoothly on neural pathways
What is occipital pole
The back of the brain, above the cerebellum
What are projection fibers
nerve tracts that connect the cortex with lower parts of the brain, and spinal cord
What are association fibers
nerve tracts that connect the cortical areas with the cerebral hemisphere
what is reflex behavior
automatic, innate response to stimuli
