Brain Flashcards
Brain
The organ in your head made up of nerves that process information and controls behaviour
Forebrain
The anterior part of the brain including the hemisphere and the central brain structures
Midbrain
The middle section of the brain forming part of the central nervous system
Hindbrain
The lower part of the brain that includes the cerebellum, pons and medulla oblongata
Anterior
Dictated towards the front, when used in relation to biology
Posterior
Dictated towards the back, when used in relation to biology
Cerebellum
Describe the role of the Cerebellum during development
An area of the brain near the brainstem that controls motor movements, coordination and balance (muscle activity)
The cerebellum manages motor commands sent from the central nervous system (1) which helps with motor skills such as balance when learning to walk (1).
Medulla oblongata
Connects the upper brain to the spinal cord and controls automatic responses
Involuntary response
A response to a stimulus that occurs without someone making a conscious choice. They are automatic, such as reflexes
Neural connections
Links formed by messages passing from one nerve cell (neuron) to another
Frontal lobe
Decision making and impulse control
Temporal lobe
Helps us with hearing and understands sounds
Occipital lobe
Deals with our ability to see
The brain stem
Is the structure that connects the cerebrum of the brain to the spinal cord and cerebellum
Parietal lobe
Perception (the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses.) allows us to understand the world around us
