A radioactive tracer shows parts of the brain. X-ray beams are directed to the brain in a circular motion. Areas of high density (tumours) absorb more X-rays and show up white.

The patient is given a small amount of radioactive glucose, emitting gamma radiation. Cells which need glucose for respiration glow.
