Brachial Plexus Flashcards
Where do the ventral rami of C5-T1 exit?
between scalenus medius and anterior
What are the direct branches from the rami?
Dorsal scapular nerve (C5) to rhomboid muscles
Long Thoracic Nerve (C5-C7) to serratus anterior
Trunks of the brachial plexus?
Superior formed from C5 and C6
Middle formed from C7
Inferior formed from C8 and T1
Suprascapular nerve?
C5 and C6 innervates supraspinatus and infraspinatus
What branches make up the subclavius nerve?
C5, C6 from the superior trunk
Anterior division?
Carries fibers from the tunks of anterior compartments to upper extremity. Comes from lateral and medial cords
Posterior division?
Carries fibers from the tunks of posteiror compartments to upper extremity. Comes from posterior cord.
Cords?
Named for relationship to axillary artery
Lateral cord made from anterior divisions of the upper and middle trunks
Posterior cords come from all trunks
Medial cords come from the anterior division of lower turnk
Direct branches off of the lateral cord?
Lateral pectoral nerve (C5-7) innervates clavicular head of pectoralis major
Terminal nerve off of lateral cord?
Musculocutaneous (C5-C7) innervates biceps brachii, brachialis, and coracobrachialis
Direct branches off of the medial cord?
Medial pectoral nerve (C8-T1) innervates sternal head of pectoralis major muscle and minor.
Medial Cutaneous nerve to brachium
Medial Cutaneous nerve to antebrachium
Terminal branches off of medial cord?
Ulnar nerve (C8-T1) innervates flexor dig frof, flex carp uln, palm brev, abd dig min Medial root of median nerve (C8-T1) innervates pronater teres, flex carp rad, flex dig sup, flexor pol long and brev
Posterior cord direct branches?
Upper subscapular nerve ( C5, sometimes 6) innervates subscapularis
Thoracodorsal (C6-C7) to lats
Lower subscapular nerve (C6, sometimes 5) to subscapularis and teres major
Terminal branches of the posterior cord?
Axillary (C5-6) to deltoid and teres minor, sensory on arm over deltoid
Radial (C5-T1) posterior compartments of arm and forearm, also brachioradialis
Sensory to back of arm forearm and hand
