Brachial plexus Flashcards
What muscles and sensory area does the axillary nerve serve?
Muscles:
Deltoid
Teres minor
Sensory Area:
The skin over the upper lateral part of the arm
What do the posterior divisions of the brachial plexus form?
the posterior cord
What muscles and sensory area does the ulnar nerve serve?
Motor: All intrinsic muscles of the hand
Sensory: Skin over the medial one and one-half digits, medial palm and wrist.
What is the origin of the medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm?
Medial cord (C8, T1).
Which nerve from the medial cord innervates both the pectoralis major and minor?
Medial Pectoral Nerve
What is the origin of the nerve to subclavius?
Superior trunk (C5, C6).
What muscle does the lateral pectoral nerve innervate?
Pectoralis Major
Do any peripheral nerves originate directly from the divisions?
No
Which roots form the inferior trunk of the brachial plexus?
C8-T1
What muscle does the superior subscapular nerve innervate?
Subscapularis.
What is the origin of the radial nerve?
Posterior Cord (C5-T1)
Where is the inferior trunk located relative to the subclavian artery?
On rib I, posterior to the subclavian artery
Which cords give rise to nerves associated with the anterior compartments of the upper limb?
The lateral and medial cords.
What muscle does the nerve to subclavius innervate?
Subclavius
What muscles does the suprascapular nerve innervate?
Supraspinatus, infraspinatus.
What is the origin of the musculocutaneous nerve?
Lateral cord (C5 to C7).
What sensory area does the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm serve?
Skin on the medial side of the distal one-third of the arm.
Which cord gives rise to nerves associated with the posterior compartments of the upper limb?
Posterior Cord (C5-T1)
What is the origin of the lateral pectoral nerve?
Lateral cord (C5 to C7).
What is the origin of the median nerve?
Medial and lateral cords (C5, C6 to T1)
