Brachial Plexus Flashcards
Nerve, Origin, Branches, Supply
Dorsal Scapular Nerve
* Origin Anterior ramus of spinal nerve C5
* Branches None
* Supply Rhomboid major and minor, Levator scapulae
Nerve and course
Dorsal Scapular Nerve
* Pierces middle scalene
* Descends between levator scap on one side and serratus posterior superior and posterior scalene on the other
* Runs along medial scapular region, along anterior border of rhomboids
Nerve, Origin and Supply
Long Thoracic n.
* Origin Spinal nerves C5, C6, C7
* Supply Serratus anterior
Nerve and Course
Long Thoracic n.
Course
* Distal and lateral
* Deep to clavicle AND superficial to 1st and 2nd ribs
* Along anterior thoracic wall in midaxillary line
* Ends on superficial surface of serratus anterior
Nerve, Origin and Branches
Suprascapular n.
* Origin Superior trunk of brachial plexus (C5-6)
Supply
* Motor: Supraspinatous and Infraspinatus
* Sensory: Glenohumeral and acromioclavicular joints
Nerve and Course
- Transverses scapular notch (inferior to superior transverse scap lig) into supraspinous region of scap
- Gives off branch to supraspinous muscle
- Continues through greater scapular notch to reach infraspinatus fossa
- Terminates within infraspinatus muscle
