treatment OTC
A
tamsulosin 400mcg (Flowmax MR Relief)
- 1 tablet daily
- 2 week initial supply
- if Sx improve, can make further 4 week supply OTC
- need to ee GP in 6 weeks of starting
- can continue OTC when see GP (as long as Sx stay the same)
- 45 - 75yrs

counselling for BPH
A
- reduce alcohol
- reduce caffeine
- reduce fluid intake esp before bedtime
- general lifestyle -> weight loss

when NOT to supply tamsulosin
A
- Sx < 3 mths
- prostate surgery
- unstable/undiagnosed diabetes
- liver/kidney/heart problems
- Sx postural hypotension
- cataract surgery planned
- recent blurry/cloudy vision not examined by GP/optician (cataracts)
- allergy to tamsulosin/ingredient
- other meds for BPH Rx
- antihypertensives, esp ALPHA BLOCKERS
