BP Modelling and Redesign Flashcards
What are the phases of the BP redesign lifecycle?
- Process Identification - the process
- Process Discovery - AS-IS model
- Process Analysis - Problems and weaknesses
- Process Redesign - TO-BE model
- Process implementation
- Process Monitoring and controlling
What are the 2 process improvement methodologies?
Lean and Six-Sigma
What is the difference between the two process improvement methodologies?
Six-sigma assumes that there is a problem with with the process that needs to be fixed.
Lean on the other hand does not address a specific problem with the process, but rather optimises the working process by removing waste (i.e be lean).
What are the 5 phases of Six-Sigma?
- Define - project plan
- Measure - current measures, as-is process, etc
- Analyse - data, root causes, etc
- Improve - find solution & implement
- Control - validate benefits & control new process
What are the 3 tools the Lean methodology uses?
- 8 wastes
- Cause & effect
- 5’Ys
What are the 8-wastes of the lean methodology?
- Defects
- Overproduction
- Waiting
- Non-utilised potential
- Transport
- Inventory
- Motion
- Extra processing
What is the difference between obvious and hidden waste?
Obvious waste is reduced in the improved process but is still there to some degree.
Hidden waste on the other hand is eliminated completely in the improved process.
Why would one use a fishbone cause and effect diagram?
It is a great way of identifying the many small errors/mistakes/causes that led to the problem in question.
