How old is boxing?
A
Boxing has been recorded back to the Sumerians 6000 years ago. It entered as an Olympic sport in 600 BC. Modern boxing for prize fighting evolved in England in the early 17th century onwards.

A
Modern boxing for prize fighting evolved in England in the early 17th century onwards. In 1867 rules were drafted for amateur boxing for lightweights, middleweights and heavyweights.

A
There are 4 major sanctioning bodies.
- WBA - World Boxing Association
- WBC - World Boxing Council
- IBF - International Boxing Federation
- WBO - World Boxing Organisation

What are the current main rules of boxing?
A
- Gloves are worn 12oz, 14oz & 16 oz.
- Fighters are categorised in weight classes which differes slightly in weight and the naming of classes depending on which organisation they’re in.
- Bouts are scored by 3 judges using a subjective method on each individual round.
- If all 3 judges agree the decision is unanimous.
- If two judges mark the fight as a draw, or if one does and the others are divided, it’s a draw.
- 12 three minute rounds.
- Cannot strike below the belt, in the kidneys or the back of the opponents head or neck.
- Low blows are allowed 5 mintues to recover.
- Foul before the 4 th round ends fight this is a no contest.
