What are the four attachments?
Secure, Avoidant, Ambivalent & Disorganised
Stranger Anxiety
An infant’s wariness when a stranger such as an unfamiliar adult is present
Separation Anxiety
When an infant shows signs of distress because they fear being apart from or losing a person or other attachment figure
How does a child with a secure attachment act?
Secure, explorative, happy/comfortable, confident
How does a child with avoidant attachment act?
Not very explorative, emotionally distant
How does a child with ambivalent attachment act?
Anxious, insecure, angry
How does a child with disorganised attachment act?
Depressed, angry, passive, non-responsive
How responsive is a caregiver to the child’s needs with a secure attachment?
Quick to react, sensitive to child’s needs, consistently responsive
How responsive is a caregiver to the child’s needs with an avoidant attachment?
Distant, disengages, unresponsive/dismissive to child’s needs
How responsive is a caregiver to the child’s needs with an ambivalent attachment?
Responds to child inconsistently, sometimes sensitive, sometimes neglectful
How responsive is a caregiver to the child’s needs with a disorganised attachment?
Extreme & erratic, frightened or frightening to a child, passive or intrusive to child
