extends from the 6th costochondral junction at the olecranon to the 11th intercostal space dorsally
how do you auscultate the heart?
start on the left side. just dorsal to the point of the elbow, and move it cranially by sliding beneath the triceps muscle
then move it more cranially and dorsally.
then repeat on the right side
where are the four cardiac valve areas?
-pulmonic valve: left 3rd IC, between shoulder and elbow
-aortic: left 4th IC at shoulder level
-Left AV: left 5th IC, between shoulder and elbow
-right AV: right 4th IC, bw shoulder and elbow
where do you count and evaluate the pulse?
the coccygeal artery.
runs along the tail.
also can use the facial artery or the brachial artery.
where does bovine pe start?
at the rear. while u take temp, u check the pulse at the coccygeal artery, and also look at the mucous membranes of the vulva for color, moisture and CRT
where is the apex beat?
visible and palpable, reflects the left ventricle.
left 5th IC, dorsal to the point of elbow, olecranon.
should jugular vein pulsation be observed?
It can be observed normally from the thoracic inlet to about 1/2 up the neck
