What is a boundary?
A limit of a subject or sphere of activity
Professional boundaries
Refer to the rules and limits that prevent the lines between a professional and a client from becoming blurred
Two types of family boundaries
- Boundaries that are too permeable

Define Temperance
Temperance is a character trait of moderation and self-restraint. “The essence of being an adult involves learning to control childlike impulses because society cannot exist if it is composed of self-destructive and self-centred individuals.”
Boundary Violations
A serious breach that results in harm to clients and is therefore unethical. Constitutes exploitation of the client/patient.
Boundary Crossings
Occur when relationship switches from commonly accepted professional practice to personal relationship that may be harmless or harmful.
