Q

Where should an EpiPen be injected

A

The top of the thigh

17
Q

What is Anaphylaxis?

A

An extremely dangerous allergic reaction caused by a massive over-reaction of the body’s immune system

18
Q

An anaphylactic reaction can cause shock because the large quantity of histamine released in the body does what?

A

Blood vessels dilate (Causing a fall in blood pressure)

Blood capillary walls become ‘leaky’ (Causing a fall in blood volume)

The strength of the heart’s contractions weaken (Causing a fall in blood pressure)

19
Q

Anaphylaxis - what are the most common reactions to?

A
  1. Prescribed drugs
  2. Insect stings
  3. Nuts or seafood
20
Q

In an anaphylactic reaction, the immune cells release massive quantities of a chemical called histamine. This causes a rash and itching, but in massive quantities can also be life threatening. Why?

A

Can cause life threatening airway, breathing or circulation problems.

Airway - It can make blood capillaries ‘leak’ causing swelling that can block the airway.

Breathing - it can constrict the wind pipes in the lungs, just like an asthma attack

Circulation - it can make blood vessels dilate to three times their usual size, resulting in a life-threatening fall in blood pressure. Fluid loss from leaking capillaries will make this even worse. If this happens the casualty must lie down. Standing or sitting up could result in such a lack of blood to the heart that it stops instantly.

21
Q

What is in an EpiPen?

A

Adrenaline

22
Q

Explain the micro-needling treatment?

A

It creates a multitude of tiny puncture wounds to the dermis, which targets keratinocytes, melanocytes and fibroblast cells and induces the release of growth factors that stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin. The wound from a micro-needle goes through the same process of healing as a larger wound (inflammation, proliferation, tissue remodelling.

23
Q

What are the benefits of micro-needling?

A
  1. Stimulates collagen and elastin
  2. Boosts the skin’s healing and repairing system
3.Results with firmer and softer skin
  3. Refines the tone and texture of the skin
  4. Absorbs active ingredients from the vitamins used for maximum treatment results
24
