bottom up approach Flashcards
What is the aim?
Create a picture of the offender, characteristics, and behaviour through systematic evidence. It is more data-driven.
What is investigative psychology?
Applying statistical procedures and psychological theory to analyse a crime scene. A key feature is interpersonal coherance (how the offender and victim interact) and also geographical significance.
What is geographical profiling?
based on crime mapping and psatial consistency.
the maurder=close
the commuter= far away
2 strengths of this theory?
Canter and Heritage gathered research support for the smallest space analysis using 66 cases.
Lundigarn gathered evidence for geographical consent using 120 U.S. cases, creating a centre of gravity.
2 weaknesses of this theory?
Investigative psychology will tell us little about crimes that have few links and remain unsolved.
It’s only 75% lead to offenders.
