What does Botox do?
It temporarily paralyzes muscles by blocking the nerve signals that tell muscles to contract.
Origin of Botox
In the article titled, “The Remarkable History of Botox”, published June 4th 2024 on the website Very Well Health, Naveed Saleh states that in the 1970s, scientists tested treating strabismus (crossed eyes) on monkeys using the botulinum toxin and in doing so, they noticed that the toxin reduced wrinkles in the glabella (the skin between the eyebrows and above the nose). Allergan was then the first company to license the treatment and brand it Botox in the 1980s.

Botulinum toxin was FDA approved for its medical use. It’s popularity in cosmetic procedures grew when people noticed its anti-aging effects on the skin
