Q

How is scoring calculated on the BOT-2?

A
  • Record raw scores for each item directly onto Record Form
  • Convert raw score to point score
  • Compute the subtest total score by adding the point scores within each category
  • Record the total point score for each category on the front cover
  • Look up child’s scaled score based on age and gender
  • Add scaled scores for each category
  • Using the sum of scaled scores convert scaled score to standard score

Q

What does the BOT-2 scaled scores signify?

A
  • It tells us how for away from the mean an examinee’s subtest score is from the mean point score of examinees of the same age based on the standard deviations within the population sampled

Q

What does the BOT-2 standard scores signify?

A

Q

What do BOT-2 confidence intervals signify?

A
  • They give the standard error of measurement from the obtained score to the true score
  • Confidence intervals vary with age because they function on reliability

Q

What is a percentile rank?

A
  • A descriptive statistic
  • Describes the percentage of children the examinee performed better than in a particular category
  • Helpful for parents

Q

What are age equivalents?

A
  • They indicate the age at which the examinee’s score is the average score for that particular test. It is not as strong of a statistic as scaled, standard, and percentile rank scores but it sometimes helpful for describing to parents

Q

What are advantages of the BOT-2?

A
  • Norm-referenced
  • Good parametric properties (test-retest reliability)
  • Development of the BOT-2 included collaboration with multiple disciplines
  • Pictures accompany instructions
  • Instructions may be verbal or visual which gives the therapist more flexibility
  • Atypical populations were included in the sample and include: Asperger’s Disorder, Cognitive Disability, Developmental Coordination
  • Wide age range (4-21)

Q

What are disadvantages of the BOT-2?

A
  • It is time consuming to administer the entire test
  • It is expensive
  • Some subjectivity still remains for scoring for the fine motor integration section
  • Items can be hard for younger children (child may become discouraged and shut down)
  • It evaluates motor components and not functional occupations
  • The manual and kit cost almost $1,000

Q

What type of assessment is the BOT-2?

A
  • Norm-referenced
  • Standardized
  • Evaluates motor proficiency in children ages 4-21
  • Contains 8 subtests for both fine motor and gross motor skills
  • The assessment demonstrates good validity and reliability
  • Can be used in clinic or school settings
