- Prohibition was trying to keep people off the streets, but it actually failed and caused more people to be on the streets in gangs, which caused violence and death.
Roaring 20’s and Breaking Boundaries:

- The roaring 20’s was a lively time. Everyone was clubbing, drinking, and having a good time.
- It was also a decade of innovation and wealth
- More people lived in Urban places than in the US South
- Many People lived in New York
- Billionaires lived on Wall Street and Park Avenue, and threw parties and had a great time
Jazz and Harlem:

- Harlem was a center of African American culture, art, and music, and a symbol of the struggle for civil and economic equality.
- The Harlem Renisance period of artistic flowering that produced a wealth of literature, music, and art.
- The Cotton Club was lively, and people came to it from all over. Many famous musicians played there.
Rural America
While many people still lived in the cities, there was a small rural population. They lived like their grandparents, and were mainly farmers with quiet, simple lives.
Lower East Side and European Immigrants:
The lives of European immigrants in the Lower East Side were characterized by hard work, dangerous conditions, and crowded living conditions.
New Technologies:

- Before, America had only candles and oil lamps, but soon they were electrified. Lights extended the night and opened up new possibilities. This all came first to Cities.
- Before, Horses were the main way of travel, and the car was revolutionary. It gave Americans freedom, and the ability to move and expand their world.
Advertising and Credit:
- With the rise of cars came the rise of advertising. Billboards lined roads, and became a staple in the American landscape.
- Credit was the ability to buy now, pay later. It was revolutionary, and expanded Americans wealth to cover the basics till they could afford to pay back.
Radio and its importance:
Radio was desired most in the last years of the decade. It grew rapidly and became more and more important in the american lifestyle. Soon, everyone was selling radios, and everyone wanted to get there hands on them. It caused a communal energy to grow in America; people laughed at the same jokes and heard the exact same things, miles apart.
