Q

In aircraft with an alternator installed how are the switches set up?

A

One half for operating the battery, which connects battery power to the bus bar
The other half for the alternator switch for energizing the alternator and connects the alternator field to the bus bar

Q

Purpose of fuses, circuit breakers, and overload switches?

A

Provide protection of the equipment from any electrical current overload, the fuse will blow or a circuit breaker will pop out and break the circuit so current can flow.
Prevent circuiting from overheating or catching fire

Q

What are overload switches?

A

Combined on/off switches and overload protectors. They will switch themselves off if they experience an electrical overload. (can be reset by thepilot.

Q

CO2 as a fire agent?

A

Used extensively in fixed installations that discharge into freight and baggage compartments. Handheld may be used in the cabin (size must be in portion to the air space)

Q

Methyl Bromide (MD) as a fire agent?

A

Used extensively in engine bay extinguishers since it is more effective than Co2, it is very toxic and thus not used in the cabin.

Q

The dry powder as an extinguishing agent?

A

Commonly used on held extinguishers and often provided in gallery areas.
The free-flowing powder which is very effective against liquids and electrical fires.

Q

Fire extinguisher bottles are fitted with thermal relief valves?

A

If the bottle becomes overheated and the internal pressure rises to the level where there is a danger of explosion, the contents are discharged overboard.

Q

Constant flow oxygen set up?

A
  • It is the simplest and cheapest
  • Compromises of a cylinder regulator and a manifold system
  • Cylinder stores the gaseous oxygen at about 2200 psi
  • Regulator reduces the pressure to 20 and 75 psi
  • This pressure is maintained until its empty
  • Manifold installed into the aircraft and for a portable device installed with the regulator.

Q

What are altitude adjusting and altitude compensating systems

A

Sets appropriate flow for the desired altitude

ALtitude compensating does this automatically whereas altitude adjusting is done manually
