Air conditioning Flashcards
What does conditioning mean?
Applying temperature, humidity and ventilation control
Where is air sourced for air conditioning?
Engines compressors, but cooling is required
How is temperature contorled?
- 50% air is recirculated.
- Aircraft is divided into seperate zones
- The zone requiring the coldest air determines the temperature of air provided by the air con packs
- The trim air system supplies the necessary amount of hot air to adjust the temperature of the other zones
What are aircon packs?
They provide dry, sterile, dust-free conditioned air to the cabin at the proper temperature, flow rate, and pressure, to satisfy pressurization and temperature requirements.
Does the air cycle system include?
One or more air to air heat exchangers, compressors,s, and a turbine.
It may also have a cooling fan
Can bleed air bypass the air cycle machine and be used to mix with cool air before it enters the cabin?
Yes
What are some other main components of the air cycle system? NOT THE MAIN ONES
- Primary heat exchanger bypass valve
- Shut off valve
- Refrigeration bypass valve
- Water separator
What is included in an electronic temperature control system?
- Cabin temp pick unit
- Cabin air temp selector
Cabin air temp regulator.
Vapour cycle system observations?
- Power is required to drive the compressor but can still be more fuel-efficient than the air cycle
- Past systems have been heavy and unreliable
- Pressure is much lower than that required by air cycles at low altitudes
- usually employed for ground operations in hot ambient conditions and medium to light aircraft.
Can aircraft have a combined Air con system or both systems in an aircraft?
Yes
What are the requirements of an air conditioning system?
PRESSURE CELL designed to WITHSTAND PD;
Can respond to RAPID CHANGES in AMBIENT PRESSURE/TEMP;
Air SUPPLY sufficient for cabin PRESSURISATION and AIR CONDITIONING
