The Death of Orpheus
A
- with his song orpheus enchants the trees, animals, and rocks to follow him. a group of wman notice him and start throwing spears at him angry bc he rejected their company.
- his music protects him from their fatal wounds. the woman band together and attack orpheus with stones, spears, and branches.
- a group nearby get scared and run away. the group of women steal stuff from the farmers and finish killing orpheus. the land loses its glow.

A
- bacchus is angry that the woman killed orpheus so he twists tree roots around their bodies and embeds their toes in soil. they turn trees

Midas
A
- bacchus is still angry with the thracian women, so he leaves thrace. he brings dancers with him but silenus, his old father, isn’t w them. he has been found drunk in midas’s kingdom.
- midas had been trained in bacchus’s rites and hes pleased that silenus is a follower of bacchus so he invites him to a feat to reunite w bacchus.
- happy to be back w his father, bacchus tells midas he’ll grant any wish of his. so midas asks for anything he touches to be turned to gold.
- bacchus says he’ll regret this but goes through with it. midas soon realizes everything he tries to eat turns to gold.
- midas realizes the mistake in his ways and prays to bacchus so bacchus reverses the gift.
- midas starts to hate wealth do he wanders. the mountainsides worshipping pan. one day pan says he is a better musician than apollo so him and apollo get in a competition, where tmolus the judge, says apollo wins.
- midas overhears this competition and says tmolus is wrong. angry, apollo gives midas donkey ears. midas hides his ears from hairdresser but the hairdresser knows, so he whispered the secret into a hole in the ground and buried it. next spring a cluster of reeds grew there.

Laomedon’s Treachery
A
- after punishing king midas, apollo visits troy. the founder, laomedon, is slowly building the walls. apollo and neptune disguise themselves and help build the wall for money but when they finish laomedon doesnt pay them. neptune floods troy and forces lao’s daughter to be sacrificed to be a sea-monster. apollo rescues hesione but lao once again refuses to pay. apollo then captures troy w help from peleus and relamon.

Peleus and thetis
A
- after capturing troy, telamon marries hesione. peleus is already married to thetis. jupiter (peleus’s grandfather) had wanted thetis, but didnt want to sleep with her bc he was scared she would give birth to a child who would be more powerful than him.
- instead jupiter tells peleus to have a kid w her. one day thetis is lying nakes and asleep in her underwater cave. when he wakes her he tries to sleep with her but she refuses so he tries to rape her. she changes shape and escapes.
- peleus flees thetis’s cave and decides to ask the sea gods for advice. one of them tells him to sneak up on her and tie her down. he does this she gets pregnant and achilles is born.

Peleus at the Court of Ceyx (1)
A
- peleus is happy with thetis, but is soon banished when he kills his half-brother. he goes to trachis, a city ruled by Ceyx.
- peleus anter’s his palace and asks him for housing. he tells ceyx his identitiy but not what he did.
- ceyx welcomes him to trachis

Ceyx’s Story: Deadalion
A
- peleus asks ceyx why he is crying. ceyx draws peleus’s attention to a bird of prey disturbing the other birds in the sky and says the bird used to be his brother daedalion. ceyx had a peace-loving nature, but daedalion liked war. one day apollo and mercury both caught sight og d’s daughter chione and fell in love w her.
- mercury immediately made chione pass out and raped her. then later in the night apollo disguised himself and also raped her.
- 9 months later, chione ave birth to twins. autolycus (mercury) and philammon (apollo). chione bragged that she is more important than diana. angry, diana pierced her tongue with an arrow. then chione died in ceyx’s arms. then he told daedalion who got super depressed. he tries to throw himself onto a funeral pyre but is held back. he runs to the top of a mountain and jumps, apollo transforms him into a hawk.

Peleus at the Court of Ceyx (2)
A
- as ceyx tells his story, peleus’s hardsmen runs into the palace. he explains that he had taken his cow to a stream near a small shrine. suddenly a wolf appeared from the riverbank and attacked the cows. they need to team up and kill the wlf.
- peleus and ceyx grab their spears. ceyx wife alcyone begs him to stay. peleus thanks him and says pls dont risk your life for me. peleus prays for the wolf to vanisha nd when thetis joins, the wolf turns to marbl.e peleus moves on to magnesia, ruled by acastus.

Ceyx and Alcyone
A
- ceyx is still botheres about his brothers death and what happened to the wolf. he talked to the oracle at apollos temple. when alcyone hears that he will be leaving she cries. she asks why are you leaving. she is scared he’ll die. she begs for him to take her with him.
- ceyx is moved by this but doesnt let her come. he promises to be him within two full moons. alcone tries to delay the trip but he still leaves.
- when night is falling a storm starts to brew. the ships planks start to break and flood. ceyx regrets leaving. a big wave crashes down and sinks the ship. ceyx dies.
- alcyone doesnt know he’s died. everyday she prays to juno that he will return. juno is tired of getting prayers about a dead person so she send iris to teh god of sleep and asks him to make alcyone dream about ceyx being dead.
- iris goes to the cave, and the sleep god sends morpheus to do it. that night he gives alcyone the dream. when she wakes up she runs to find ceyx and when she doesnt find him, she finally believes the ghost.
- she wishes she went so they would have dies together, she goes to the shoreline and finds his body. she jumps to teh body and turns into a bird. the gods transform ceyx into a bird as well.

Aesacus
A
- and old man watches the two birds. another man watches another bird flying close by. this bird used to be aesacus. descended from the founders of troy. aesacus was a river gods child and born on a secluded mountain. he didnt like cities and shunned troy. he was in love with hesperia, the daughter of another river god.
- one day arsacus spies her deying her hair by the riverbank. he chases after her. as she runs, a snake poisons her ankle and she dies. he rebukes himself for chasing her. he is as much as fault as the snake.
- he jumps off a cliff to releive his guilt. to his dismay a river goddess transforms him into a diving bird. still wanting to die, he throws himself against rocks. he continuously tries to kill himself
