Orpheus and Eurydice
A
- Hymen, the god of marriage, attends a wedding in Thrace, but its not a happy one.
- shortly after the wedding the new bride is walking through a feild and a snake bites her, poisoning her to death. orpheus, her husband is overcome with grief and follows her to Hades.
- he meets with hades and says “Ik eventually everyone dies, but please let me have some more time with her.”
- hades grants him his wish, but on one condition. Orpheus must walk out of the underworld and not look back, trusting that Eurydice will be right behind him.
- Orpheus agrees and begins to leave, he never once looks back, until the entrance. right as Eurydice is walking out, she falls back in because he broke his promise.
- orpheus is once again depressed and tries to enter the underworld again, but is not allowed. he becomes super depressed and for three year does not love another woman (he loves teenage boys instead which yuck)

Cyparissus
A
- one day orpheus is playing with his lyre and all kinds of trees begin growing around him. one of them is called a cypress, which used to be named after a boy cyparissus.
- cyparissus had loved a sacred stag with golden antlers and jewels hanging from its neck. he took it arounf with him and bejeweled him.
- one day while it was sleeping, cyparissus accidentaly stabbed it. he wanted to kill himself over this accident, so apollo turned cyparissus into a cypress, a tree everyone will mourn under.

Orpheus’ Song: Intro
A
- orpheus sits under a cypress and plays his lyre
- his first song will be about jupiter and then he will sing about boys the gods love and about girls whohave been punished for wild passions.

Orpheus’ Song: Ganymede
A
- once jupiter fell in love with a young boy named ganymede. jupiter disguised himself as an eagle and carried ganymede up to the heavens and to juno’s annoyance, still serves jupiter at his table

Orpheus’ Song: Hyacinthus
A
- apollo once loves a young boy name hyacinthus who lived in sparts.
- apollo wanted to bring him up to the heavens so he disguised himself as his companion.
- one day they’re playing a game of throwing discs. apollo threw it and it flew over the clouds back down to earth. - hyacunthus tried catching it, but it hit him in the face.
- apollo tried healing the wound that appeared, but couldnt and hyacinthus died.
- apollo feels that he is to blame for his death, so he promises to sing about him and turn him into a flower.

Orpheus’ Song: The Cerastae and Propoetides
A
- Orpheus then sings about cerastae and the propoetides.
- the cerastae were a group of men who sacrificed human victims to jupiter. this offended venus bc she is the goddess of life. she turned them into bulls.
- the propoetides, a group of women, insulted venus by saying she wasn’t a goddess. so venus subjected them to a life of prostitution.

Orpheus’ Song: Pygmalion
A
- next, he sings about pygmalion, a sculptor who notices teh propoetides laviscious way of life.
- pygmalion had decided not to marry for many years bc of female vices. so instead he sculpted an ivory statue of a beautiful woman.
- he fell in love with it and bought it gifts and tucked it in bed.
- during venus’s festival, pygmalion asked for a woman the resembles his statue. she came to life and they had a daughter name paphos.

Orpheus’ Song: Myrrha
A
- orpheus then sings about how paphos gave birth to a boy named cinyras.
-,yrrha, cinyras’s daughter, was pursued by many suitors, but is filled with incestuous desire for her father. - she prays to teh gods to remove her wicked desire.
- she hates that animals can do as they please and she cant be with her father. she thinks about running away but that means being apart from her.
- cinyras asks which suitor she wants as her husband. she says someone like him but he takes is as a “daughterly duty” way.
- that night she decides it would be best to die. a nurse overhears and prevents her death. the nurse tries to find out why she did that and myrrha refuses to tell.
- eventually she says her mother is lucky to have her father and her nurse is like “wtf stop thinking that.” and myrrha is like “i either die or get w my father.”
- during this time cinyras is sleeping alone, and the nurse is like “i have a young girl who wants to fuck you” and hes like “ok bet send her my way”
- every night myrrha goes in the dark and they fuck (YUCK) until one night he wants to see her face. he sees its his daughter and tries to kill her. she runs away and is pregnant.
- on the run she wishes to neither live nor die so she is transformed into a myrrh tree.

Orpheus’ Song: Venus and Adonis (1)
A
- myrrha despite being a tree still grows the baby so Lucina yanks that kid out. out comes adonis who is super hot.
- during this, cupid gives his mother venus a kiss and she becomes very attracted to adonis.
- usually shes a girly girl, but with him shes one of the guys. while hunting she tells him to be careful w lions and he’s like why and she sits him down.

Venus’ Story: Atlanta and Hippomenes
A
- venus tells him of atalants, a girl who was faster than any man. she was very pretty and everyone wanted to marry her but the gods said no so she told everyone only if you can beat me. if they lost they died
- hippomenes was like wtf is everyone doing this then saw her and was like omg i want to do that.
- he rizzes her up and she is like awww and wishes he either finds someone else or she was allowed to marry.
- as they prepare to race hippomenes prayed to venus. she gave him three golden apples from a sacred tree with instructions to throw them. atalanta gets disctracted and keeps pickin them up.
- he wins! they marry! but he forgot to thank venus so venus is like fuck that guy and punishes him. one day the newly wed couple is walking and venus makes them super horny. they go into a carvern to fuck but its sacred, so venus punishes them by turning them into lions.

Orpheus’ Song: Venus and Adonis (2)
A
- after her warning she leaves adonis. as adonis leaves the woods he distrubs a boar. he tries to kill it but it doesnt work. the boar kills him.
- venus sees his dead body and grieves. she then turns him into a deep red flower. he becomes the anemone - a frahile flower with a short life.
