For he stirred in anger against the king bad sickness on the camp
ὃ γὰρ βασιλῆϊ χολωθεὶς νοῦσον ἀνὰ στρατὸν ὄρσε κακήν
From the first time the son of Atreus, the king of men, and the dazzling Achilles stood apart in quarrel

he went to the swift ships of Acheans

intending to release his daughter and carrying boundless ransom
λυσόμενός τε θύγατρα φέρων τʼ ἀπερείσιʼ ἄποινα
carrying in his hands wreaths of far-shooting Apollo on a golden staff
στέμματʼ ἔχων ἐν χερσὶν ἑκηβόλου Ἀπόλλωνος
χρυσέῳ ἀνὰ σκήπτρῳ
and he was entreating all Acheans, mostly the two sons of Atreus, commanders of people
καὶ λίσσετο πάντας Ἀχαιούς,
Ἀτρεΐδα δὲ μάλιστα δύω, κοσμήτορε λαῶν
Sons of Atreus, and other well-greaved Achaeans,
Ἀτρεΐδαι τε καὶ ἄλλοι ἐϋκνήμιδες Ἀχαιοί,
to you may the gods who have homes upon Olympus grant that you utterly destroy the city of Priam
ὑμῖν μὲν θεοὶ δοῖεν Ὀλύμπια δώματʼ ἔχοντες
ἐκπέρσαι Πριάμοιο πόλιν
and to return safe to your homes;
εὖ δʼ οἴκαδʼ ἱκέσθαι·
