Bones of the Upper Limb Flashcards
Which bone of the forearm articulates with the humerus?
Ulna
Describe the membrane which attaches the radius and ulna.
When is it tense or relaxed?
Interosseus membrane. Fibrous connective tissue
Tense in pronation, relaxed in supination
Describe articulation of the ulna.
On extension of the forearm, moves into the olecranon fossa on the posterior of the humerus.
What two bones does the clavicle articulate with?
Sternum and acromium
You have done an x-ray on a patient complaining of shoulder pain on articulation. The gap between the glenoid cavity and the head of the humerus appears smaller than usual. Why?
The patient has arthritis.
The gap is smaller due to the loss of hyaline cartilage in the joint.
State the bones of the hand, from lateral to medial and proximal to distal.
Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrium, pisiform, trapezium, trapezioid, capitate, hamate
