Bones and Intro Flashcards
What are the four segments of the upper limb?
Shoulder, Arm, Forearm, Hand
What is characterized by its mobility and ability to grasp, strike, and perform fine motor skills?
Manipulation
What components does the shoulder include?
Deltoid, Pectoral, Scapular, Lateral part of lateral cervical region
What is the pectoral (shoulder) girdle formed by
Scapula and Clavicles and completed anteriorly by the manubrium of the sternum
What forms the superior appendicular skeleton?
The pectoral girdle and bones of the free part of the upper limb
What axio-appendicular muscles attach what structures to the axial skeleton?
Ribs, sternum, vertebrae
What part of the clavicle are convex anteriorly?
The medial 2/3
What part of the clavicle is flattened and concave anteriorly?
Lateral 1/3
What are the functions of the clavicle?
1) Serves as pivoting (rigid support) for scapula and free limb suspended for maximum freedom of motion for the arm?
2) Enables elevation of ribs for deep inspiration
3) Forms one of the boundaries of the cervico-axillary canal (passageway between neck and arm) – Protection to neurovascular bundle in upper limb
4) Transmits shocks to upper limb of axial skeleton
What is the easiest bone to fracture?
Clavicle
