Bones and Biomechanics Module Flashcards
What are 3 terms for the Human Tissue Act 2008?
- Voluntary donation of bodies
- Required dual signed consent by the donor and an immediate family member
- Most bodies are held for about 18 months, however body parts can be kept for longer periods for teaching and research (allowed under the Act)
What are the 4 types of tissue?
Epithelial, Connective, Muscular, Nervous
What is the structure of epithelial tissue?
Cells that have been continuously arranged in a sheet
What are the functions of epithelial tissue? (4)
Physical protection, selective barrier for transportation of substances, secretion, sensation
What are the two types of epithelial tissue?
Covering/lining, glandular (endocrine or exocrine)
What is the structure of connective tissue?
Specialised cells, extracellular protein fibres, ground substance
What are the functions of connective tissue? (6)
- Structural framework
- Transport fluids and dissolved materials
- Protect delicate organs
- Support, surround, and interconnect other types of tissue
- Store energy
- Defence
What are the types of connective tissue proper?
Loose, dense
What are the types of fluid connective tissue?
Blood, lymph
What are the types of supporting connective tissue?
Cartilage, bone
What is the purpose of muscle tissue?
Contraction to make a movement
What are the 3 types of muscle tissue?
Skeletal, cardiac, smooth
What is the function for nervous tissue?
Conducting electrical communication through impulses
What do dendrites do?
Recieve info from other neurons
What do axons do?
Conduct info in the form of electrical impulses to cells
