COMPACT BONE
A
strong, good at transmitting force in one direction

CANCELLOUS BONE
A
Light and spongy, absorbs shock, criss cross bone fibers that absorbs the shock

LONG BONES
A
Longer than they are wide, levers for movement, wider epiphyses and longer diaphysis, mostly limb bones are long bones

SHORT BONES
A
Close to equal width and length, mostly cancellous, weight bearing from multiple directions and designed to absorb shock e.g. carpals and tarsals

FLAT BONES
A
Function for muscle attachment, creates a shield for stuff behind it, thin plates of compact bone

A
Any bone that doesn’t fit into the other 3 categories, various shape and functions
