Bones Flashcards
What are the bones of the tarsal?
Talus - top
Calcaneus - posterior talus
cuboid - anterior of calcaneus, posterior of navicular and cuneiforms
What femoral bony landmark represents the distal anterior attachment of the hip joint capsule?
intertrochanteric line
Damage to which artery is MOST likely to cause avascular necrosis of the femoral head?
Medial femoral circumflex
What muscles attaches to the lesser trochanter of the femur?
iliopsoas
What muscles attach to the greater trochanter?
muscles in the gluteal region e.g. gluteus medius, gluteus minimus and piriformis
What muscle arise from greater trochanter?
vastus lateralis
What is the site of attachment of the iliofemoral ligament?
intertrochanteric line
What does the quadrate tubercles of the intertrochanteris crest attach to?
quadratus femoris
What ligament attaches to the medial aspect of the lateral condyle of the knee or intercondylar eminence?
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
What ligament attached to the lateral aspect of the medial condyle?
posterior cruciate ligament
What type of bone is the patella?
Sesamoid
What structures attach to the superior and posterior aspect of the patella?
superior (at the base of patella): quadriceps tendon
Inferior (at apex of patella): Patellar ligament
What are the two facets of the posterior surface of patella and what do they articulate with?
1) Medial Facet: articulates with medial condyle of femur
2) Lateral Facet: articulates with lateral condyle of femur
Two functions of the patella?
leg extension (uses the quadriceps tendon) and protection
What are the borders of the tibial shaft?
Anterior - marked by tibial tuberosity and attachment site for patella ligament.
Posterior border - origin part of soleus muscle and has soleal line (nutrient artery proximal to soleal line)
Lateral border - interosseous border (fibula)
