What does altricial mean?
Hatch or born early in development. Unable to walk and have undeveloped sensory systems
What does precocial mean?
Hatch or born late in development. Capable of movement and seek for food
What type of animals is altricial?
Typically carnivores as they have hunting behaviour, the baby would be carried for long periods of pregnancy
What type of animals is precocial?
Typically prey animals, young are fully capable to follow the mother soon after birth
What is imprinting?
Any phase-sensitive learning, animal learns characteristics of a stimulus. Happens in ducks
What is filial imprinting?
A new born establishes a behaviour to another animal of its own kind

What is sexual imprinting?
Where a young animal learns the desirable characteristics of a mate
Why is bonding important?
Ensures the survival through teaching skills, protection and courtship and parenting
